Be prepared for detours in Washington County

If you take Route 149 to go between Queensbury and Fort Ann, you're going to need a different route starting this Saturday.

The New York State Department of Transportation, along with the Washington County Department of Public Safety, are notifying travelers that the state highway just west of the Village of Fort Ann will be closing for a two week stretch while road crews replace an aging culvert.

The closure will be between Mountainview Drive and Nicholson Road in Fort Ann, about 1/2 mile west of the Village.

The detour posted will vary based on the vehicle type.  Cars will be detoured along local streets including U.S. Route 4, Charles Street, Goodman Road and Nicholson Road to reconnect with Route 149 west of the Village.  But commercial trucks will be asked to head further south.  Westbound trucks will be asked to use U.S. Route 4 south to State Route 32 just north of the Village of Hudson Falls, then to State Route 254 in order to connect with either U.S. Route 9 or Interstate 87.  Eastbound trucks will be asked to get onto State Route 9L, then take county routes to Kingsbury, then U.S. Route 4 to connect with the intended route, as indicated below.

State Route 149 connects U.S. Route 9 at the Lake George Outlets near I-87 Exit 20 with U.S. Route 4 in the Village of Fort Ann.  The road is a popular connector for commercial and distance traffic bound for New England via Fair Haven, Vermont.

The work is expected to take 2 weeks to complete, weather dependent.
