Movie Review- Lee Cronin's The Mummy

When I saw the preview for this film, I immediately thought: "Another Mummy movie"!?

This Mummy would not be based off of the old Universal lore from the 30's & 40's. This takes place in a modern setting and this time around the protagonist and deals mainly with themes of parental sacrifice/guilt, the return of lost loved ones, also just like the 1932 original, ancient curses, demons and the clashes of with a secular life.

As Lee Cronin did with "Evil Dead Rise" a few years ago, he re-imagines a horror classic and ups the psychological horror and of course gore!!! It wasn't a bad film, but to me the amount of gore was unnecessary and made the film a lot longer than it needed to be. There was no need to make this film almost 2 hrs. 15 mins! Some of the Egyptian lore (even if some of it was fiction) and actors were interesting for sure, but the gore and false ending didn't jive with me and I will leave it at that, because to say more would spoil it!
